Learn Stand-Up Paddling in Goa
Never stood on a SUP before? That’s completely fine. You can start with one guided session, or spend more time working on balance, paddle technique, control and confidence on the water.
Makai’s SUP courses follow a simple progression: start with the basics, build stronger technique, then develop the awareness and judgement needed to become less dependent on instruction.
Start where you are. Build from there.
If you simply want to try stand-up paddleboarding, start with one session. If you want more time to practise, understand the board and become more capable on the water, Level 1 and Level 2 take things further.
Learn to SUP
Approx. 2–2.5 hours
A proper first introduction to stand-up paddleboarding. We’ll help you get comfortable with the board and paddle, find your balance and start moving through the water with a little more confidence.
Complete beginners, first-time paddlers and anyone who wants to try SUP before committing to a longer course.
- Getting familiar with the board and paddle
- Balance and comfortable standing posture
- Basic paddle technique and movement
You want a single guided session that teaches you the basics without turning your first SUP experience into a multi-day commitment.
Level 1 SUP Course
Four focused sessions · Approx. 2 hours each
Level 1 gives you more time on the board and more repetition. Instead of simply getting upright and paddling, you begin working on control, technique and what to do when things do not go exactly to plan.
Anyone who enjoyed their first SUP experience and wants a stronger foundation rather than another one-off session.
- Board positioning, paddle technique and control
- Turning, navigation and balance in changing water
- Safety practices and basic self-rescue
You want enough coached time to practise properly, correct mistakes and become a more confident and capable paddler.
Level 2 SUP Course
Approx. 3–4 days · Approx. 15 hours total
Level 2 goes beyond simply paddling better. You spend more time understanding technique, conditions, equipment and the decisions involved in planning a session with greater confidence.
Developing paddlers who already have a foundation and want to deepen both their practical skills and their understanding of the water.
- Stronger technique and more efficient paddling
- Wind, tides, currents and ocean awareness
- Equipment care, fitness and session planning
- Video analysis and personalised feedback
You want to become less dependent on instruction, make better decisions and build the judgement that comes with more time and structured practice.
Good paddling is not only about staying on the board. It is about control, awareness and making better decisions on the water.
From first paddle to greater independence.
Learning SUP usually starts with balance and basic movement. From there, the focus shifts towards better technique, more control and a stronger understanding of the conditions around you.
Balance + Basics
First comes getting comfortable. You learn where to stand, how your body affects the board and how to use the paddle without fighting against it.
Control + Technique
Once the basics begin to feel natural, there is more room to work on efficiency. That means cleaner strokes, better turns and more deliberate control over where the board is going.
Awareness + Independence
With more experience, paddling becomes less about following instructions and more about understanding what is happening around you before deciding what to do.
Progress is different for everyone. How far you get depends on your starting point, confidence, water conditions, repetition and the time you have to practise.
