Yoga at Makai
Surfing and yoga have a few things in common: balance, breathing and paying attention to how your body moves. That is why yoga has a natural place alongside the time we spend in the water.
Our Hatha Yoga session is open to surfers and non-surfers alike. It works on mobility, flexibility and body awareness at a steady, beginner-friendly pace. You do not need any previous yoga experience to join.

The session is built around mobility, flexibility, balance and body awareness. It combines traditional Hatha Yoga postures with gentle mobility work, breath awareness and mindful movement.
There is no need to arrive flexible or experienced. The practice can be adapted around your current mobility and familiarity with yoga.
No previous yoga experience required.
Useful in the water. Worth doing without it.
Surfing asks a lot from the shoulders, upper back, hips, spine and ankles. It also depends on balance, breathing and being aware of how your body is moving.
That is why some of the Hatha Yoga session is shaped around those areas. The practice can help you work on mobility, flexibility and body awareness, while giving you a slower way to move after time in the water.
You do not need to surf to join. The surf connection simply influences some of the mobility and recovery work in the session.
The practice works across a few areas that regularly come into play both in surfing and everyday movement.
The emphasis can change depending on individual mobility and experience.
